Geissele makes a 10.3 and 11.5 URGI both with a Carbine length gas system. The 14.5 URGI is the only mid length.

TL:DW: 10.3” is the shortest you can cut a M4 barrel.<br>When the military says “we want the shortest barrel possible from these M4 uppers,” that’s what you get. As the CQBR for shipboard operations, 10.3” worked fine as a SMG replacement. Then comes along the GWOT and we’re off and running.

Imagine you are in a classroom with one other student and he reminds the teacher that there was homework due. When you get your homework out the guy that said something didnt even have anything to turn in, takes your paper and turns it in... and the teacher is cool with it. Your name is Lewis M. Toole.

Ironic how things come in cycles. From Colt 733, 11.5", to MK18, 10.5, back to 11.5.

It's not really an m4, but I always got a little jealous when I saw someone with a shortened barrel m249 with a grip. It was like "That's cool! Why can't I get one of those?"

even the 10.3 is a stretch imo. 11.5-12.5" barrel is the sweet spot I'd say.

Now I see why so many armies are looking for bullpup rifles, same long barrels for ballistics and shorter gun over all for close quarters combat.

I once had a 10.5 and it was so painful to tune that I gave up. Spent several hours at the range, multiple visits, different buffer weights, adjustable gas blocks, suppressor combination and I could get that thing to run reliably. Months later I decided to go with 12.5 and for my surprise I didn’t need much to run suppressed/unsuppressed. I went back to basic parts and that thing runs everything you put in it. Turns out the gas port on the 10.5 was over sized making it extremely over-gassed from day 1. From experience I can say 12.5 is better but I really enjoyed the small package of the 10.5, just was given a lemon at the time.
