  Did you read my description in a previous comment about the Schirrmacher Wappen? &nbsp;It has three horizontal stripes - purple, yellow-gold, and blue. &nbsp;In the purple is a golden mitre (or crown), and in the bottom yellow and blue is a large knight&apos;s armored arm and hand holding a sword. &nbsp;On the sword is the laurel wreath. &nbsp;Your description of the laurel wreath reminded me of the wreath on the sword on the coat of arms. &nbsp;A Schirrmacher in my family was a Teutonic knight from Mewe, Westpreußen, supposedly was a Crusader. &nbsp;The surname means &quot;harness-maker.&quot;

  I’m in Brisbane, Australia &amp; I would really love to know what the meaning is of my German Grandmother whose surname was Gardoll / Gardol. She came from the wine growing town of Eltville on the Rhine in Hesse. All her family emigrated to Australia.

  Gerhauser- house of spears, not sure if it is a tradesman derivative or as a protector. Hauser, Haussen are they from the same root and their meaning.
