300,000 miles with the same battery and motors is a testimony for Tesla

I have a 2015 S 90D with 276,000 miles. I just had an independent shop replace both drive unit fluids for preventative maintenance.

Putting a glove over a dripping hose or fitting is a quick and easy way to keep from getting random toxic chemicals dripped in your eyes/mouth/armpit/etc.

Looks like the inverter would have come out a bit easier with the steering shaft rotated to the left a bit 😉

This front drive unit design seems to further illustrate a theme I'm noticing about Tesla over the different iterations of their product lines. In the early days with the lower kwh battery packs and rear drive units in the Model S, they had serviceability at the top of the priority list. The newer 100kwh packs and the front drive units not so much. Too bad. I wish they had been able to keep that as part of their corporate culture like the Japanese OEMs did throughout the 70s to early 00s. It's a big part of why they developed reputations for reliability. A typical German car is actually fairly reliable, but when it comes time to service them, not so easy like it is with a Japanese car. Then needed maintenance and service doesn't get done and now you've got a 2 ton paperweight sitting in the driveway when there would otherwise be a lot of life left in the vehicle. I don't think Tesla is even close to there yet, probably not even as bad as most American manufacturers, and maybe on par with current Japanese OEMs, but it's a concerning trend.

Damn, that customer certainly got their money worth out of that Tesla. I guess they'll keep running it until the frame wears out. Great fix.

Hi Alex, a very interesting video as always. I was really surprised when you said "Metallic Schmutz" at the 26:35 mark—the word "Schmutz" is 100% German; it really made me smile.

Greetings from Germany.
