  I was the system manager for the Postgres Group at UC Berkeley. I worked directly for Mike Stonebraker. Although I wasn&apos;t a database engineer I did do some work on the early Postgres95 release, such as porting it to Windows NT. So, I was there when much of what you describe occurred and I knew all the people.<br><br>Your presentation was pretty good. I have a few minor comments.<br><br>1) Mike didn&apos;t really leave UC Berkeley when he started Ingres and Illustra.<br>2) Illustra is pronounced with the stress on the second syllable.<br>3) What happened to the Ingres company had nothing to do with what happened with Postgres.<br>4) Although you describe the award that Mike won, you surprisingly didn&apos;t mention its name. This was, of course, the Turing Award.<br><br>I think it&apos;s fair to say that none of us who worked in the Postgres Group had any idea that it would turn in to what it is today.

  I hate the notion that Relational databases are dead .... every non relational database ive ever seen, is actually a relational database , with a lazy implementation , and terrible query speed

  god I FUCKING LOVE POSTGRES. It&apos;s one of those rare technologies that you can simply just *rely on*, that you know won&apos;t go away on the next hype cycle, and yet manage to stay modern and agile. And that feels fantastic in a line of work where you&apos;re generally expected to constantly keep up with and learn new things.
