buying a 69b company just to hand out cease and desists for basic security patches is peak corporate clown behavior

This explains why a year or so back our IT department dropped every other goal to migrate everything off VMware.

This is how you know a company is too big. They literally bought a tech that runs most of everything and then has enough money and power to just say FU to all their customers including the government

I suspect it's a case of regulators and government officials just not understanding what the product was.

I am the primary contact to a VMWare-now-Broadcom customer. I had a 3-year support with perpetual license. VMWare was pretty cool about everything. However, the angry emails I received about my support expiration were downright threatening. I had to bite the bullet and extend my license with their BS non-perpetual license for a year to prep my migration to something else. I won't go into what, but it has been a ride. The worst correlation is the current 4-10x cost for server hardware.

An object lesson in why friends don't let friends use proprietary software for anything important. It's always at most one acquisition away from insanity.

Broadcom has single-handedly increased the workload of every IT shop. If your IT department hasn't jumped to another product or are in the middle of doing it, they've more than likely spoken about keeping that option open. Broadcom's license price increases are absolutely BRUTAL.

That 1,050% proposed increase is absolutely wild. How does a customer even plan for that?

It's not like enterprise VMWare licenses were cheap to begin with.

Using VMware was ridiculous a decade ago. So stupid departments get shown why being stupid isn't cheap. Pay for dumb engineers who only know how to use VMware, pay 10x the price. Get good engineers, use FOSS
