The aligners were made in China. I worked for a company that had me and a bunch of people unpackaging all of the boxes to get ready for bulk shipment. The impressions went to US, we open the boxes, initial them with the customer's info, and then bin them. Onsite dentists checked them before we packaged them to be shipped. They went to China via express. They sent it back finished to a different facility to repackage in SDC boxes and send them to the customer's. I hated that job. I only stayed for a few days. They didn't have proper PPE and there were many times people sliced their fingers and got blood on the impressions. They'd still send those out. Since we were all temps, it was up to the temp company to pay out any workers comp.

SDC was available here in the UK too. Expensive and I found out at the end that my retainers would need to be continued to be worn under a subscription model even after paying them for the first part of the process. My teeth basically started to reset over the 6 months after completing my final insert. During those 6 months the company disappeared.

My wife used a mail order service but with the help of an orthodontist. Between the two working together my wifes teeth look awesome. I didnt think they were bad at all before but its amazing how much it improved in a few months. Definitely would never use some service where I'm not getting checked on constantly.

It's always the same story with these "disruptive" companies. Come up with an unsustainable business model based around trying to shortcut an established industry, then hope they can either grow fast enough to outpace the economic and legal issues that come with trying to take those shortcuts, or try to stay afloat long enough to sell it off to someone else for more than it's actually worth.

I've always wondered of the backstory of the scammer who's the founder of this (kind of) weird product, could they simply be a scammy Dentist? (low chance but possible), or are they just a FAILURE of a Dental Student who's accepted into Dental School because their parent are business owners and bribe the school they were at?

The explosion of G&A expenses in 2019 was the SDC melting down and the owners stealing all the assets of the company. Then their shady business model and huge legal expenses made things worse. 21% interest on the aligners is too much for many to sustain. Can only go into the toilet with shady managers and owners. Invisalign stock peaked over $700 in 2021, now at 149. The easy money came and went.

Is the narrator AI?! Not knowing that dept and univ are short names for department and university makes me wonder about this.
