There seems to be just one cub… maybe the others got killed and that explains dad‘s protectiveness

He knows that if the cub has 1 hair out of place when Mom gets back, that's his Ass..

When these guys tussle, that’s a lot of muscle, fur, claws, and teeth moving very quickly. And they’re not even that serious about it. So impressive!

I'm willing to bet there's something we're missing as humans like a slight power struggle in the pride that the father is picking up on.

Actually it makes sense. The male has a high social sense. This behaviour will result in more cubs surviving. The cubs will likely adopt the behaviour due to social evolution and act the same way when growing up. This cycle then repeats and will probably result in more surviving offspring as well as more intelligent offspring because they still compete with other individuals.

That’s definitely strange. Male lions usually borderline ignore the cubs.

Even though lions are wild beasts, they are still social creatures, which means they can attach and form bonds with cubs although rare

Dang that lion whooped that male and female. He even landed the faint right paw strike. Bros an elite fighter.
