Poor lioness. Not being able to trust him again after his previous carnage. You can tell she's behaving differently. Not once did she couch down in submission. She's showing her full fangs, telling him he's not welcomed. He seems to believe her threats, looking away, trying to appease her, even as she turns her back, then finally leaving after her mock charge. I feel so sad for her. I hope all her babies survived that year.

At first the cubs acted curious, like they wanted to meet the lion. But once they caught onto their mother's threats and anger, the cubs quickly started to imitate her and were giving the lion hell too.

Some of the healthiest looking cubs I have seen. Momma is doing a great job of taking care of them.

So interesting how he avoids eye contact with her in the beginning, he won't even look at her. Eye contact for felines is a sign of aggression.

The lioness appears to still be traumatized by the deaths of her first litter. She's letting the lion know not to mess with her or those cubs.
