Hey Evan, I very much enjoy your videos. I'm a retired dude from the US living in Colombia for 6 years. Here's what everybody seems to get wrong, and trust me, I know what I'm talking about here. The Colombian retirement visa (M-11) is based on a minimum income requirement of 3 times the minimum monthly salary in Colombia which in 2026 is 1,750,908 COP X 3= 5,252,724 COP and the exchange rate COP/USD when this was published by the government used 3,750 COP to 1 USD, so that meant that the minimum mthly. requirement was $1,400 USD, BUTTT...this amount flucuates daily depending on the exchange rate. Whatever day you or your visa attorney submits your application online for a new visa or renewals, the rate that day determines what you have to have as a minimum. ANDDDD, because the USD has dropped like a rock against an incredibly strong COP, as I type this, the exchange rate is 3,138 COP/USD which means anyone applying today needs $1,674 USD per month in passive income !!! WOW, right? The USD has fallen in value right at 1,000 COP in one (1) year. (4,100-3,100) Also, after buying real estate here, I am now most probably going to have to sell my home and leave the country because my SSA check is just under $1,450 USD, and I will most probably not meet the requirement...only if the COP loses considderable value against the USD will I be able to stay. FYI (PS) many other expats are in this same boat with me and are having to potentially leave.

I've been in Da Nang for 6 months. I spend $400 per month rent and about the same or less on food and other expenses. If you keep the rest for visa runs and whatever else comes up, it's still very doable.

You need to mention that your safety wing insurance only applies to those 64 and under in age. Thank you.

I suggest you spend time in Panama before advising people to move there. I know you have great intentions making these videos and you give people some good ideas.
I visited Panama City for a week and it was too long.
A reality check:
Mold in the hotel room. Sometimes one of the elevators wasn’t working. Beggars everywhere. Poorly kept roads. Prostitutes will approach any time of day. Razor wire above the privacy gates. Trash everywhere except for the upscale areas. People digging through the trash looking for something to eat. Security guards inside of pharmacies. Foot and motorcycle police are present up and down the main roads. Didn’t give a tip at the Hard Rock Cafe due to poor service and they started speaking poorly of me in my presence. Anti gentrification propaganda hanging in the historic districts. Food was okay, pretty basic. Most of the people were kind and tolerant of me speaking little Spanish, the ones that are not will let you hear them speak poorly of you. Tap water was okay to drink. Weather was pretty good with the occasional rain here and there, pocket umbrella is suggested. Vehicles driven were either clapped out junk or pretty nice/new. Four wheel drive suv or truck is advised due to the poor road conditions. Definitely need GPS even in the city due to lack of road signs present.
Anyone planning on moving to another country should definitely get in touch with local expats for a reality check.

I live in Saigon and if you want any kind lifestyle and I dont mean luxury, $1000 USD a month wont cut it unless you want to live in a food vendor cart. Now if you live outside of a big city that $1000 USD a month will go a little farther. Im 49 and a retired Industrial Electrician after 30 years with a good pension and a fat 401K. I consider myself middle class in America. I started out with a 1 bedroom apartment for 485 USD a month. I now have a beautiful 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment, with wifi, tv, AC, separate kitchen and living room, new washer/dryer and fridge I pay 25 million VND a month with a gym, pool, underground parking with security. I pay electric and water. Its just me and my 47 year old Vietnamese girlfriend. $2500 USD to 3500 USD rent will get you a Penthouse. If you consider yourself very well off then District 1 and District 7 may be what your looking for but plan on spending more money. This is my experience as of August 9, 2026

Great video. I wouldn’t need to limit myself to $1000, but it’s a great benchmark to make sure that I can not only survive, but thrive.
