I switched from only Powerlifting to endurance sports and therefore always had my reservations for doing half or quarter squats. It was more of a pride thing, than based in anything factual. Since switching to half squats, I have seen great gains and best of all, are a lot less sore, which allows me to run intervals significantly harder.

The Romanian deadlift indeed helps injure prevention for hamstrings.

I think this is more of a problem for sprinters, when these muscles are activated much more. However, Ingebrigtsen's speed is what we normal people would call sprint.

Audun Boysen, legendary Norwegian 800m runner, is said to have done calf raises whenever he was standing still, waiting for a green light or the subway.

Attaching the camera to the barbell was a great cinematography choice, super interesting

Can you make a video about isometric exercises for runners?

Great video again, Goran. TY! I think you probably pinpointed Jakob’s cause of his recent Achilles injury: no calf strengthening. In addition I also need to strengthen my plantar fascia in my foot. I got plantar fasciitis from speed work and uphill sprint starts.

I see a run specific physical therapist since a big injury almost a year ago. Many of the strength training exercises he gives me are single leg, and the movements are not as deep to simulate running mechanics. Though I trusted him already, it's good to see that other experts agree with this method of weight training.

Lets not forget about swing phase and hip and ankle flexors. Also some more stability of the hip and core could be beneficial. Your colleague from Finland.

I'm assuming Jakob's combination of volume, intensity and the specific workouts of hill sprints and track reps in spikes means his lower leg gets so much stimulus that strength training on top of that is an injury risk. I doubt him loading it in the strength room would have done much to avoid his current injury.

I got rid of a long running (ha!) niggly calf injury by doing one legged weighted calf raises on a step. Still using a hand for stabilizing. 3 x 10 on each leg, 3 times a week. Now up to 30% of body weight. Recommended.
