I ended up with a cart of ninja jaja maru-kun years ago,and I love it. Such a cute little arcade game. When ninja-kun came to steam, I jumped on it

I just realized there might be another pun in the name "City Connection" -- "connection" refers to the road between the cities but also that she's trying to make a connection with someone and find a boyfriend

I do love these compilations! Can't wait for the next one!

I have to wonder if some of the "bad" ambitious games from 1985 ended up that way in part due to developers smacking up against the 40 KB (32 KB PRG + 8 KB CHR) ROM size limit early NES games had. It seems like a game with the scale of the original Super Mario Bros is in many ways the limit of what you can do to make a game still very good with that ROM size limit. Obviously some games, especially the Micronics and Tose developed stinkers, would have still been bad no matter how much ROM size was available.

It also seems that Nintendo themselves ran into that during/after SMB since their last ROM based game for a while was Mach Rider. The FDS was in development, which gave them more storage space to work with until the time when mapper chips would become viable and standard for most games. In the US, by the time the NES hit mass appeal in 1987/88 we had games like Metroid & The Legend of Zelda that used mapper chips from the very start. That made many of the the 1st generation mapperless Famicom games that were released on the NES seem rather quaint, hence the "oh that exists" sentiment that popped up a few times in this video.

Comparing these videos to your more recent ones definitely highlights that you've come a long way in the presenter department.

Oh so that's why nothing worked when we played Hyper Sports on my cousin's Famiclone.
