I have been watching your videos for about a year now. The videos you've put out over the last few days have been transformative for me. Especially this one. Everyone in this comment thread seems to be grateful to you for the same thing: you're meeting so many of us where WE are. Which is looking for someone who understands the shame and vulnerability and negative self-talk and everything else that comes with body issues. So many channels that focus on weight loss focus only on losing weight. I can't tell you how much it meant to me to watch you share your story. I watched your videos this week and started my journey. Thank you for the inspiration and for helping so many of us feel less alone. You're amazing. ♥️☀️

I have lost 50 pounds 2 or 3 times but was never able to maintain it. After being diagnosed and treated for ADHD and going to therapy I am at it again. Losing weight is so much easier when you take care of your mental health. ☀

Carla, I have watched this 3 times. I can scarcely find the words to express how much this moved me. As I mentioned before, I have been in recovery from drug addiction for 36 years and have been maintaining a 55 lb. weight loss for 5 years. I have been to thousands of meetings and heard hundreds of speakers. This is one of the most beautiful messages I have ever experienced. I felt like your beautiful bright light penetrated my soul. Thank you so much for you honesty, humility and courage in sharing your journey ☀☀🌞🌞💚🖤♥

☀️ Thank you for opening up about the psychological aspects of our weight and eating issues. I am 52, and I still struggle but have recently understood why I eat like I do at times. I am constantly being bullied by doctors into gastric bypass. I don't judge anyone if they do, but I am starting to finally lose weight, and would rather keep my stomach whole. It is almost like a punishment for being obese, and if I don't deal with my underlying issues, it would be for nothing.

Carla, I have been to a great therapist for a couple of years. And from the first session, until almost a yr later, I cried. Not just cried, I sobbed. Then one day, as a session ended, I realized I hadn’t cried. That’s when I felt better. Overeating wasn’t really my issue, it was drinking and chasing dangerous relationships. Reaching out for help saved my life.

I remember so clearly around 11 years of age, sneaking out to the kitchen and taking half a loaf of sliced bread back to my bedroom. I remember crying and shovelling those slices down and I remember that I was trying to stop the pain in my stomach that was coming from my emotional distress.
That pain is similar to hunger.

Thank you Karla for your wonderful insights.

☀️ You have hit so many pieces of me! I recently gained 100lbs (over 3 years, now 6 years later) in recovery from addiction, health issues, family trauma, and mental torture.

Even though I am almost 45 years old, I really believe that I am only now finding my true self. The fact that I lived a very outwardly successful life with my career, my marriage, my health and body figure, it was all a façade. Where I do truly have a lot of sincere and genuine feelings towards others, and still do, I realized that I was an overly anxious, people-pleasing, and disingenuous person to my own self. I did everything for everybody else, because it was either a necessity, a way to prove my value to my family members, and I thought I was living the right life in the right way because it seemed perfect from the surface. I kept my home like a museum despite the fact that I raised two kids while my husband worked opposite hours. I thought that naps and people who took time to relax on the weekend, were lazy or foolish, and I think my inner resentment became judgment. Just as I had always been judgmental about the large amounts of drinking happening in certain areas of my family that would often drive me to be judgmental. I later found myself with an opiate addiction amidst going through treatment for a very tough back issue. And when that all began and my dependency started, I felt like I was found out for being a fool for all the “perfect” years, and I felt like I was worthless because I had gone from the top to the bottom of the bottom. And now that I am thankfully sober for almost 8 years, I find that after a lot of therapy. I have a very different outlook on life, my family, behaviors… as in the way, I act towards someone or the way people act often hurts me. In addition, so many things have made me incredibly introspective, but with so much anxiety. I feel like I’m getting there mentally, but my body, my energy level, my lack of motivation and analysis paralysis, along with feeling like my family let me down during the tough times in my life by not even trying to maintain some semblance of organization in my home keeps setting me back. I feel like if I live this conflicted lifestyle of wanting to do so much that I physically cannot do is strictly because I put myself in that position. I’m still going to a psychiatrist and a therapist to work through the fact that my feelings do have value and that a lot of things can explain why I ended up in the position that I am now. What I want to do though, is be able to show up for myself, which is the perfect way that you did put it. While I listen to a couple of your videos this evening, I took out my journal and started brainstorming a great deal because I know how to manage a caloric intake, and I know how to exercise, but I come up with excuses and create so much anxiety within myself that I physically am unable to do the things that I want. You have given me a great start and creating an outline of some of the baby steps that I need to do to prepare myself for a huge weight loss journey. Before in life, I would often times want to be more toned or just to go down from 130 pounds to 125. I would take the kids to the gym with me to the daycare there when they were smaller. I would check my calories and work out with a personal trainer until I achieved such desired effect. I know that’s the same thing that I need to do but it seems so daunting with not just 5 pounds but 20 times that number. I look forward to watching many more of your videos and discussing a lot of your process that made you successful with my doctors and with my therapist. I wish you well, Ms. Carla and I thank you so very much!!! From an Irish American - Blessings, Angela
