My favorite part of this film is that they spent so much time stressing Chris's physical attributes as a Black person but in the end, it's his quick thinking that saves his life. They totally underestimate how smart he is, which makes it SUPER satisfying when he escapes in the way he does. It's a smart illustration of why racial stereotypes, even positive ones like "Black people are physically exceptional," can affect your perception of someone in a way that's innacurate and negative. Jordan Peele did a LOT with this film, and it's got fascinating and disturbing layers.

My favorite anecdote about this movie is that Allison Willams say white people always ask her about Rose saying “She not really evil right? It’s her parents that hypnotize her to do this right?” She says they can’t conceptualize a young white woman being evil so she has to break it to them that “No. Rose wasn’t being controlled by her family. She’s evil. She’s a villain.”

Someone mentioned before that she didn’t want the cop to see his ID in the beginning because she knew he would eventually wind up missing lol

Sad fact… the reason that Chris stares at the deer so long that they hit in the beginning is because it reminded him of how his mother died. Both killed in a hit and run, but didn’t die right away and ending up passing away slowly and alone.

Also, sort of similar to how Rose ends up dying in the end. Left alone to die on the road.

Losing that race to Jesse Owens was what inspired this in the first place. The grandfather spent his entire life creating a medical procedure and indoctrinating his entire lineage to perform it for him all so he could obtain a black man's body to finally be the fastest runner, as some personal victory against the black man who beat him. It's sick and evil and pathetic. Such a cool movie.

Did you guys also notice the metaphor for bucks? Back in slavery times they used to call black men bucks, now rewatch the scene with the father about how he feels about bucks. And the sweet justice of him getting killed by the deer head. This is a movie that absolutely needs a rewatch in your free time.

Mom isn't a witch, she is genuinely a psychiatrist. That was genuinely hypnosis. Rose didn't want the cop to see his ID, because that generates paper trail once he goes missing. Rose was trying to stop him, just because no witness could be left alive. It wasn't because she -- or anyone -- could still perform the surgery. That was secondary at this point. Georgina crying, was because the real Georgina was trying to get out, but grandma was suppressing her. That's why the "no, no, no, no, no". It was an internal battle for agency.

Now grandpa saying "I should mind my own business", makes me wonder if it was a similar situation, where the owner of the body got out at times, and overshared info ("you were in her office for a very long time") -- I don't think that's something grandpa would have said, because it exposes part of what's happening. I wonder if it was a momentary loss of control over the brain, and therefore the conscious mind driving the body. And when he regains control, he utters "I should mind my own business", because he is quite literally, telling it to the guy in the sunken place.
