Regarding the question in the thumbnail, probably no one lives there. There's a sign on the wall that says "Paloasema" which means "Fire station."

Finland is the most sparsely populated country in EU having population density of 18 people/sqr km in comparison In USA there are 37 people/sqr km. Also something like 73.7% of the area of Finland is covered by forests, which is most in EU, corresponding percentage in USA is 33.9%.

If you look at the "ugly" place in Lapland, it's actually a bridge construction site, you can see it at 9:18
And here 24:06 you were so close to Turku, witch is a big city (in Finland terms big, not globally, it has around 200k people).

Ps. Lapland has snow only during wintertime.

Americans do fuss about their lawns, but there's usually nothing else in the gardens, which is different compared to Finland. You got lost and found some small towns in rural area. Quite a few of the houses were probably built before the 90s, but well kept. You can find houses like those everywhere in Finland, also in the more urban areas. It's nice when there are houses from different decades with different history of each era and there's continuity to the styles. Then there was a fire station on the Fire Road with a watch tower. Probably a town hall with a coat of arms on the wall. One new house was being built. If you want ugly, you should look for new houses. Those are awful when they go full modern and want to standout. There's actually an annual housing fair taking place in different cities/towns where you can visit such new houses. E.g. videos: "OULU - asuntomessut 2025 | kierretään messutalot 23.7.25" and "Asuntomessujen parhaimmat asunnot! 2026 Lempäälä".

You can see bedrock in Finland all the time. Iceages scraped all the sediments off the bedrock so it is very close to the surface. It is also some of the worlds oldest bedrocks so that "marble stairs" are 2-3 billion year old and have moved from where South Africa is now to the north.. So... when you touch bedrock in Finland you know that rock has seen some shit, so to speak. It is kind of wild, that exact rock you see was one of the first things to solidify. Oldest things on the planet. And it is literally everywhere, you dig down and it is a question of when you reach the bedrock, not if. The good thing about that all is that we have no volcanic activity or earthquakes in the Baltic Shield, the crust formation that most of Finland sits on top of.

The plant you mentioned is the American lupine (Lupinus polyphyllus) is a perennial pea plant native to North America. In Finland, it is classified as a harmful alien species, which was introduced in the 19th century as an ornamental and fodder plant, but it has spread widely in nature, especially along roadsides. In other words, the plant is a nuisance plant that takes over the space from native plants.

It was relaxing to watch you check out random places in Finland. Finland is quite "empty", especially Lapland (where reindeer roam freely as you saw, but are owned by somebody) as most people live in the southern parts of Finland. The area of Finland is almost 40 % bigger than that of the UK, but the population is only 5.6 million (half of London!). Finland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. 3/4 of Finland is forest.
