  More than any other, this YouTube channel proves my belief that guys who love machinery love ALL machinery, whether it’s tanks, trucks, stationary engines, telephone equipment or anything else mechanical. We love it all.

  In his autobiography Balkan Blue, Major General Sir Roy Redgrave recounts a funny story of how just before D-Day, his Daimler Dingo broke down outside Woolworths in Guildford. Redgrave, a subaltern at the time, allowed his sergeant to fiddle with the engine and  he observed a platoon of Canadian soldiers sauntering past suddenly espied the serried rank of prams outside the store. Now, I am old enough to remember not only Woolworths but the sign outside reading "No Prams Allowed" and a time when babies were left in prams outside shops. Quick as a flash, the Canadians rushed over and shuffled up the babies in the prams. Redgrave said pretty soon, Guildford High Street resembled a scene from Herod's Massacre of the Innocents with women with babies rushing around desperately trying to find their own offspring but eventually, the babies and the correct mothers were reunited. He thought it was a bit of a dirty trick but as the future looked somewhat scary for these men, he understood the spontaneous action. It's a great book with all sorts of crazy anecdotes and he sounded like a great guy. His cousin Vanessa Redgrave's feet were stuck into cement as part of the floor of the nearby Yvonne Arnaud Theatre when it was built in 1963- a sort of foundation stone thingy. I was a cleaner there back before electricity (which may be out future again soon) for a while-so I cleaned the floor and those footprints but I believe they are now carpeted over- a tall woman and some big feet!

  Firestone is a US brand, now owned by Bridgestone, a Japanese Brand. Firestone stopped manufacturing in the UK at the end of the 70s
