It’s a tracked pickup truck. Essential for all the behind the scenes work

I couldn't click fast enough when I saw the 548. I loved this thing. Drove one as a Combat Engineer in the early 2000's with an M136 Volcano mounted in the back.

I'd argue it was one of the most important vehicles in the museum. Logistics is the Achilles heel for some many "great commanders"

Canadian story , working on our tanks one day when this 548 is moving slowly past us and we hear this cry for help. The driver was hanging out the drivers door , upside down with his parka caught on the tiller bars . We laughed and rescued him all at same time …

Unsung hero of the battlefield.

Just seems absolutely perfect. Plenty of cargo room... can go wherever tanks can go... brilliant.

As an old 13B in the US Army, I just have to say that driver's bench seat makes a great bed, especially if that big Detroit Diesel is still hot. I eventually explained why I volunteered to sleep out there, on the 4" thick cushions.

I was the medic for the tankies in 1985-1986 and spent a couple of weeks driving around the training area in one of these. The crew had welded a bunk bed onto the rear deck so they slept in comfort while I, being auxiliary, slept on the ground outside.

We had some in Military Intelligence, except ours were M1015s that added a large PTO-driven generator in the bed with an electronic shelter above it. They also had a device on the front bumper to drive grounding rods into the dirt. I used the MLQ-34 TACJAM which was based on this and was one heck of a radio jammer. It had 3x500w transmitters that could be combined or work independently, plus the antenna gave a gain of 2-4x. You could literally kill small birds with it if they landed on the antenna (saw that with my own eyes). Too bad the chassis were overloaded and not particularly reliable.
