  I love Rubens, primarily because of Waldy's advocacy. I see his paintings at least monthly. But everything I can find says he spoke five languages. What was the sixth?

  A very excellent documentary! Yes, I think Delacroix almost worshipped Rubens like a God. Very pleased he was mentioned at the end.

  His draftsmanship in drawing was more remarkable than even his paintings, which were fairly lavish and elaborate Baroque religious commissions. He must have had boundless energy to have accomplished so much work on altarpieces and on canvas. If one looks at the sanguine (red chalk) drawings of Rubens one has to marvel---his style is unique and cannot be compared to that of Rembrandt's ink drawings with a Chinese bamboo. Real artists will always love him for his unique style---forget about his preference for the plump women in his work---that is an individual choice in one's preference and a compliment to the larger female body!
