I suggest you watch Admiral Yi by Extra History. It's a lesser known conflict with an amazing naval campaign.

It's such a strange thing to think about - the Nuremberg trials were absolutely necessary, but completely contrary to the law. They had to make up new laws, and retroactively apply them, in contravention to everything about how the legal system worked in any of the allied nations. The alternatives, however, were unthinkable.

I wish any of my History teachers were 1/10th as cool as Mr. Terry is, he has rekindled my interest in history enough to actually have conversations about it! Thank you, Mr. Terry for being so fun and here's to another 100K in the future! (He's also the first teacher I've EVER heard say Wikipedia is good in ANY sense, let alone for a lot of things!)

On the question of why they chose hanging as means of execution.
There are probably several reasons, but most obvious for me would be that hanging historically was for criminals of common birth (and quite a few of military leaders in the Reich were from noble and cadet families), which could have served as an additional insult to the highest Reich authorities.

I'll note on the comment about what about if it was happening to their own, to be fair to the Soviets, it was. A bunch of the people in what made up the Soviet Union at the time had been murdered, they'd been, if I recall correctly the first nation to find the out and out proof of what HAD happened in the death camps.

As well, something to note, the whole "rumor" of what was happening is downplaying the fact the allies had the Witold report before D-Day, which was written by a polish resistance member who'd escaped Aushiwtz. Sabaton wrote a song about him, Prisoner 4857

The german u-boat fleet actually upheld the idea of helping sailors in need, often coming up to the sinking ships to help as many survivors as they could before leaving. when this act was costing too many ships and lives for the german navy, then the commanding officers ordered their boats to VIOLATE this practice, which predated the London naval treaty, to protect their fleet.
