  My grandfather was an engineer on a B24.  Outside of a few funny stories he never talked about what he saw over Europe.  When he died at 98, he left me his journal from the war.  The stuff in there was mind blowing.  One thing that immediately caught my attention was his bomber group was involved in Operation Cobra.  He wrote about how his flight got immediate orders to turn around and when the landed they found out the vanguard of the flight bombed American lines.

  My Aunt was a Rosie the Riveter at the Willow Run plant in Michigan building B24 Liberators. I found out as we were touring a museum there when she was about 96. We were going past a partially constructed B24 and she stopped us and exclaimed, "right there! That's where I used to work riveting the plane!" I never knew before that. Quite a surprise and brought tears to my eyes then and now. She's been gone for a decade now, dying at age 99, but she would have loved stories like this one. Thank you Dr Felton!

  My father was a SSG Engineer/Gunner on B-17s prior to being shot down and captured. He told me that early on it had been a standard procedure that returning bomber crews began unloading and disassembling their machine guns as they approached the English coast to speed up post flight operations. He said that quickly stopped with the Hornet raids.

  I’ve had the privilege of visiting the rather excellent City of Norwich Aviation Museum a couple of years ago. &nbsp;Additionally, I spent the better part of an entire day touring the 100th Bomb Group Museum at Thorpe Abbotts where my Mom’s brother was a B-17 navigator throughout most of 1944. &nbsp;Miss him! &nbsp;Still have his complete flight suit and uniform. &nbsp;Outstanding information, Dr. Felton! &nbsp;This one really hit close to home for me. &nbsp;CHEERS!!!🍻

  The US 8th Air Force, flying bombers out of England, had more men KIA than the entire US Marine Corps in all of WWII.

  My father was based at Bungay. He was not flight crew but had to help clean up the carnage from shot down B-24s. The Germans tried to strafe him once, but missed. It&apos;s fascinating to find a YouTube video addressing the situation he was in! Thank you!
