  I live in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. I love my home. The location is within easy reach of a wide variety of shops and restaurants. The missing ingredient is a total lack of community at least in Baldwin Twp where I have lived for over 40 years. I regard the culture here as hostile although my neighbors are nice in general. There is something impersonal about the feel good summary you provide. Facilitating personal interactions take an entirely different approach. I am not an organizer and Baldwin Twp has none either.

  Things really turned around when the Marcellus shale took off.  All of a sudden pgh went from being parochial to cosmopolitan .

  I am a pittsburgher and have lived in Bridgeville, Carnegie and Cranberry Township. Studied at Pitt and CMU.

  What Pittsburgh could use is a lot more rail transit. They seem to lack any kind of will to get anything built. So many other cities have built rail lines to their airports and all Pittsburgh has is a busway that doesn’t go near there. One bit of good news that’s about to hit Pittsburgh is the doubling of train service to Philadelphia and New York in November. Hopefully that will prove to be only the beginning for passenger trains for Pittsburgh.

  They should be building all the data centers along the mon valley.  Lots of electric infrastructure for the grid connections and nearby cmu/pitt resources
