Never go in bear country with just a handgun, they are only good for backup. 45/70 or 12ga pump will increase your chances of seeing your grandkids get grown.

I have hunted bears and used a 8 3/8 44 mag single action 240 grain. Only takes one shot. Being calm is what saves your life

Barrel length is 5.5 or 6 inches in 357 with jsp loaded to 16.5. grs H110 on 158 or 180 gr over 1400 fps my love is 4 in 686 but my head says 6in 586 my 6in 44 magnum is my trusted friend

If have right ammo in 357 mag will stop bear. But put hollow point ect will not stamp bear. Get hard cast or solid copper, mono metal.

Do not venture out in the woods alone. Always have 2 or 3 others with you armed with enough fire power to handle a dangerous situation.

I would carry any Smith & Wesson 10mm handgun with a 4-inch barrel. This means M&P 2.0 Compact with a 4-inch barrel, M&P 2.0 Full Size with a 4.6-inch barrel, Model 610 revolver with a 4.25-inch barrel, or Model 610 revolver with a 3.875-inch barrel and a full underlug. 10mm uses a fast-burning powder like 9mm and .40 S&W.

Lower 48, 357 Magnum with 4 or 5 inch barrel with 180gr hard cast. Alaska 357 with a 5 to 6 inch barrel. Either S&W or Ruger.

I like the S&W 686 Performance center with a 5 inch bbl. The Buffalo Bore 180 hard cast should be ok. But it really depends on how big the KRITTER is.
