  The great cartoon of those days weas 'Banana Man'. The schoolboy turned into a super hero every time he ate a banana.

  The  Falklands  war  was  not  live  on  TV , there were official government/MOD reports read  out each  morning  about  events  that  had  happened  24 hours  before. News  film  had  to  be  flown back from the  south  Atlantic  before  it  appeared  on   TV. The  miners  strike  was  a horrible  time.

  When I went to university in the mid 80s there was a mature student who had a credit card. &nbsp;A credit card! We were all fascinated. &nbsp;<br><br>What I remember instead in the 80s was buying stuff &quot;on the book&quot;: going to the music shop every week to pay 50p or £1 to buy a guitar, eventually. When the shop owner decided they trusted you, they let you take it home. &nbsp;Then there were HP (hire-purchase) agreements with larger stores, so you paid a hire charge for however many months, maybe a couple of years: if you ever stopped paying they took it back. &nbsp;If you made all the payments then it became yours.

  I came to London from Brazil in 1986 to do my master degree in History. &nbsp;40 years later and I am still here. The 80&apos;s were cool Football Pubs and great music
