I have created 2 small ponds in my garden and it is truly magical how quickly wildlife begin to use and inhabit them

Wow, how nice and informative!! I’ve been thinking about a raised pond/container pond for my garden. Nice to know that you don’t have to do that regimented cleaning by draining out the pond etc!! This video has given me so much to think about. 😊

I made a pond in my garden for frogs and toads. It's big, about 8000 litres, with a variety of depths and full of water plants. I was in shock to observe how many creatures have been using it. Birds, newts, bees, hedgehogs, insects... Water is life. I live in Poland, so I need to make sure, the whole surface is not frozen during the winter so hibernating frogs and newts won't suffocate. I can't agree more with every word said in this film. Thank you ❤

Great video, and always great to see experts seek our other experts' advice. Only other thing is ask yourselves whether your neighbours have a wildlife pond which attracts frogs and toads etc. If they do, ensure your garden boundaries are not impregnable. As with hedgehogs, impregnable fence bases with zero gaps stops amphibians from being able to harness a wider habitat. If your neighbours do, sometimes something as simple as a buried large planter saucer under some protective plant foliage is enough to provide harbour for ranging amphibians. We live in the wettest county in the UK & we have newts, lizards, frogs and toads and plants like hostas are rarely damaged. Over winter they hibernate in our stone wall gaps and in undisturbed traditional compost heaps so that is worth considering if you can't put in a deep pond where frogs can hibernate in the mud.

We have a bird bath, about five gallons of water, all sorts of wildlife frequent it. Such a source of joy!

I would overflow my pond on a weekly basis to flush out mosquito larvae. I set my pond on a gentle slope and directed the water through a dry creek I constructed of river stone into a small bog I built and filled with fun bog plants. Then the bog would overflow into a dry well which directed water to the roots of my fruit trees. It was a really fun system and worked well.
