Steve Ballmer Explains: The American Healthcare System

In a nation as rich as the US, health insurance should be universal. There is no need for a profit-seeking middle man -- it is a waste of a precious resource that saves lives and increases life expectancy. Other developed countries have known and practiced that for decades and have much better health outcomes.

As a dev, I am grateful Mr. Ballmer survived the "developers" speech. 🙂 He's continued on to do some fantastic post-doc work! (Also, thank you for USA Facts!)

Fwiw, that the health and tax systems here in the US are so complicated is unhelpful to many Americans; even when they can be explained. Harkening back to Steve's earlier days, a dose of KISS "keep it simple stupid" is indicated... before we all are required to listen to another KISS and "lick it up". We humans were built for loving you, babies.

I hope there is a second part, comparing our system with those of other developed countries.

Great video explainer as always, especially on a topic as maze-like as healthcare.

I understood the medical cost situation before I listened to this, but this definitely presented some facts that I had little or no awareness of. Generally appreciate these vids, but this one was the most relevant or helpful one I have viewed. Just to put in a plug, it seems to me that MFA, or Medicare for All, is still likely the best way to deal with this challenge of human life.

Saying hi from the UK, you guys really need to ditch that dumb system and deploy universal health care. The US spends more on Medicare and Medicaid per capita that the UK pays for the entire of the NHS - free at the point of use ❤️

Medical bills and loss of job or income are consistently the top reasons people give for why they file for bankruptcy.

Out of pocket should include insurance premiums too. Its money they take out of my check which would otherwise be in my pockets.

So disgusted at this country's for profit healthcare system.

My explanation: Insurance companies have an army of attorneys and billing experts, and doctors and medical facilities have an army of attorneys and billing experts; the patient- you- have... you. Because the insurance companies and medical facilities again have an army of attorneys and billing experts, with better access to lawmakers than you, as a patient, have to get laws in their favor. The only upside the doctors, medical facilities, and insurance companies all sue each other. THAT is American healthcare.

The brightest minds and most advanced brains have given us math, engineering, quantum mechanics and so on.
Even people this smart can’t comprehend two things. One is how much a car dealership really makes on a car and two the real cost and compensation in our cockeyed, corrupt healthcare system.

  • @scottwilkins · 12 hours ago

I pay a lot more than $4300 per year for medical. It's 🦆ing expensive to stay alive in the US these days.
