  I lived in a house on Abbot Kinney Blvd (near the French Market Cafe) from Feb 1994 to March 2009, and the neighborhood changed drastically while I was there. &nbsp;In 1994, there was still a lot of gang violence, and there were practically no businesses on Abbot Kinney Blvd. &nbsp;The popular neighborhood back then was along Main Street in Santa Monica, but that was about to change.<br>I rode my bike to the beach every day after work while I lived there, but the bike paths got increasingly crowded until by 2009, I had had enough - also the street traffic changed drastically while I was there. &nbsp;In 2009, my brother and I bought a house in nearby Westchester that was almost twice the size of our house in Venice and was more affordable. &nbsp;Prices in Venice more than tripled while I was living there.<br>Last year we moved from our house in Westchester to our house in Palm Springs, where we now have two houses but are selling one of them. &nbsp;We were lucky to have invested in real estate as early as we did. &nbsp;I still miss Los Angeles, but I am retired now, and so I do not need to live there for work anymore. &nbsp;I also miss paddling my inflatable boat in the Venice Canals.

  People talk about Venice has changed so much over the past 30 years. That’s ALWAYS been the case. It was Abbott Kinney’s Disneyland of California in 1905. 30 years later a toxic oil field.

  Near the end of the video the mention of the increasing homeless population in Venice was sparked by the expo train line which travels from skid row into Venice

  I lived 1/2 block away from boardwalk on Venice Bl in first half of 1960. Walked to Westminster Ave school across a muddy drained canal. My older brother and I got new bikes at Christmas 1959. Rode them toward POP. Broken family, lived with my dad. Saw several of those oil derricks. Visited the area in 1973 to see improvement. My brother died of cancer early that year.

  Used to live by Venice Beach and loved the vibe ❤ I knew that place had a rich counter culture history and could still feel it

  As of 2007 when Claifornication came out filmed in Large part in Venice Beach, it still looked great and was full of people.

  I worked out at gold&apos;s in the 80s saw Arnold and Joe gold. Venice beach was different

  In the early 80s, I lived in the valley, but on the weekends would get up early in the morning and drive to Venice and walk the boardwalk. I’d stop and get a massage by the Sikhs &nbsp;for 5 bucks and maybe get someone to give me a tarrot card reading. Back then everyone was still rollerskating. It was really before rollerblades came out. I really enjoyed those times, I remember watching YouTube videos, the German in Venice showing all the homelessness and endless tents along the boardwalk. I couldn’t believe how disappointed I was to see that. Anyway, I hope they’re getting it all cleaned up now. I left LA in 1990 and moved to Europe. On my last trip to the US to Los Angeles I didn’t go down to Venice last summer. And the late 90s I went to Venice and it was like Disneyland. It was so crowded with people, and it turned into a tourist attraction, again I was disappointed.
