"Secure people don't explain their choices to strangers."

I should have that on a wall.

I remember answering the dreaded "What do you do?" question by saying, "I'm a wearer of many hats — and I look good in all of them". I said it in a playful tone, adding the second part because the first sounded a little weak in my head. I was later told that that made a good first impression. (Of course I later proved I knew my stuff during the conversations that ensued). Cheers! //Rick

In other words people need hobbies.

Another factor is people are often born into their role and haven't earned it. They have strong incentive to intentionally keep up the facade. Nepotism leads to weak leaders.

Correct. I retired after 8 years in a role, medical, prestige and clout. Whole identity.
Post retirement of that role, working on a business and do other odd jobs BUT, I now am free from drudgery, I am taking much better care of myself, enjoying Jazz clubs, outings in nature, learning new skills.
My validation was required from others, now I speak my intellect, interests with clarity, fun, energy, consideration of the other speaking. My central nervous system has reset, I'm more attractive now through less effort. The paradox. 😂

Welcome back. It was worth staying subscribed. Another great video and some new video techniques. Thanks.

This has a taste of the Sunk Cost Fallacy, where you have invested so much in your title so you do everything to hang on.

I wanted to let you know how much your videos are helping me. I talk on the phone all day and I’m very introverted so I come across as nervous and not confident. And today I implemented some of your techniques like slowing down my speech and pausing (which is so hard for me) and today went so well! I thought I would get behind, but the opposite happened I made the most calls I’ve ever made. Thank you so much! ❤

Society and Corporations are the drivers to the identity. Though most will not admit it.

I know a colleague like this. He made a mountain out of a molehill all because he simply cannot admit he made a mistake. That attitude struck a nerve all the way up to the top management. Your ego can be your worst enemy.

I went through this. After many years in a single role it's easy to associate with it, it shattered me when I lost it.

Coming out the other side it gave me a chance to look back and at the things I loved outside of that and start thinking about just myself and the skills I've built up over those years.

Looking for new ways to bring magic to others lives has been a healing experience.
