  Joseph is right to focus on the face. The striking eyes were what won me over; there&apos;s even comments from non-members saying his eyes are intriguing because that&apos;s the gaze of a man who&apos;s seen <i>a lot</i> of crazy stuff in his life, potentially more than the average person can even experience in multiple lifetimes.

  I&apos;m a 3rd great grandson of Hyrum Smith and attended the Smith Family Reunion in Aug 2022 in Nauvoo when the picture was presented at a Smith Family fireside. There were two things presented that I found fascinating: <br>1. Portrait painters at Joseph&apos;s time slighted distorted the portraits to make the person look better, younger, such as elongating the face and making the eyes a little bigger. So paintings are not what the person really looked like. <br>2. The bodies of Joseph and Hyrum were hauled to Nauvoo in the summer heat the day after they were killed. The death masks were made then and the faces were likely distorted from the heat.

  I remember when a friend in school in the 2000s was talking about this photo, its always sat in my memory, so I guess I&apos;ve been waiting for this movie for 20 years! I cannot wait to see it!<br><br>Ward Radio is best Ward!

  Among all the other potential mismatches, guy in the photo is almost certainly older than age 38. The age Joseph was when he passed on.

  The reasons that it&apos;s NOT Joseph Smith:<br>-It is a locket with a thick layer of gold, that has chipped off, those are gold filled lockets, patented in 1856. <br>-It is varnished, doesn&apos;t have the negative mirror switch, only tintypes were varnished and were patented also in 1856 (and many dupes are for sale, all listed at &quot;late 1800s&quot;) <br><s>Emma Josepha Smith McCallum has a picture of her wearing Emma Smith&apos;s watch (her 1875</s> 2 poses, same day), arm down image, you can see the fine details of Emma Smith&apos;s watch.<br>-Curly hair, Joseph Smith III said his father&apos;s hair was NOT Curly, Joseph&apos;s hair strands are NOT curly. They do have one late 1800s quote by George Q Cannon, youngin when Joseph died, who claimed Joseph has &quot;wavy hair&quot;, not ringlets and ironically Joseph F. Smith had wavy hair, some of it too was stored right next to Hyrum&apos;s hair and Hyrum&apos;s hair too was NOT CURLY, Joseph F. Smith&apos;s hair DOES have a slight wave, NO RINGLETS. <br>-The Anthropological Review said it is not him, they have a LONG LIST of major differences

  Sutcliffe Maudsley and his family moved to Maquoketa, Iowa and is buried in the Maquoketa Cemetery. &nbsp;We lived in Maquoketa for 20 years and the curator of the local county museum was also LDS and she made sure that Sutcliffe Maudsley was not forgotten. &nbsp;When we lived there, there were about 6 active LDS families in town and we had to drive to Dubuque to go to church. &nbsp;Later, they opened up a branch in DeWitt and that&apos;s where the Maquoketa members go now.
