  I was deployed to the Palau’s in 1984.   I was on Peleliu for the 40th anniversary of the landings and met a few vets, including the CO of Second Battalion, 1st Marines, who’d made the trip back.

  My Father landed on Peleliu with the 1st Marines, he was just 3 months into his 18 birthday. What a different generation that was!

  The irony is the Palau islands are the most beautiful that I’ve ever seen. And the scuba diving is world class. I’ve been there 2x and covered every inch on land with ‘The Old Breed’ as my guide

  Very good telling, nice overview of the battle. Arthur Jackson was on the Southern point and was responsible for the taking of 12 pillboxes and a re-enforced bunker. He won the MOH for it. When he heard that he had won the medal he was recovering from wounds received in another battle on another island. He thought he was receiving it for saving a marine, which he received a Regimental award. That always meant more to him.

  Thanks for this video. My great uncle was KIA on Peleliu 09/23/1944 and I've been trying to learn everything I can about him, his unit, and where he might have been in the hopes of visiting the island next year. The visuals in this video were very helpful. Thanks for making this!

  I’m writing a book on the Battle of Peleliu at the moment, set to release in 2026 for online orders. This battle was absolutely horrific and decimated the 1st Marine Division to its bones. Only 1-200 of the original 12,000 or so Japanese surrendered. The ridges Walt Ridge, Five Sisters, Five Brothers, and horseshoe valley were a massacre and took out the 7th, 5th, and 1st before the 321st RCT of the Army came in finally to relieve them. Battle went into nearly December with the last Japanese remnants surrendering in 1947-48.

  My grandpop Rudolph Frank Giusti Corporal fought with the 1st Marines here (B/1/1). He was at the Point in the beginning. What an insane 6 days or so he must of seen before they were relieved.  Incredible.  Never forget

  Heard about this island and the fierce fight during the HBO mini series "The Pacific."  Nasty work, but those men were heroes.

  When I was Navy. I was in Palau for 6month and we go to Peleliu on a regular taking car of the monuments there. There are red areas where there are unexploaded ordinance(UXO) all over certain areas that have not been totally cleared. Tanks and weapons are still all over the place as historic pieces. The island is very beautiful
