When I first heard Fade to Black in early 1990’s, I said that’s by far the greatest guitar rift ever created and played. And 35 years later, I still say Fade to Black is the greatest guitar rift ever created and played. So beautiful to my ears.

“Growing darkness taking dawn<br>I was me, but now he's gone”<br><br>Such a heavy line. <br><br>“Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye” as the last line before the chaos of the solo and the fade out is one of the few songs where the narrator pretty much says or infers that they take their own life at the end. <br><br>A lot of people give some credit to the song for helping them get through these sort of feeling with something the they empathize with and say it helped to “”keep themselves going””
