It's hard to hear Robin Williams without feeling emotional. I'm a working voice actor, and this movie has some history for us. He took the role of the Genie explicitly under the condition that they wouldn't use his name to do marketing - both because he hated the idea of marketing to impressionable kids (fun fact marketing directly to children was only made legal fairly recently at this time) and because he had respect for working voice actors and knew Hollywood would immediately jump on the trend of hiring film stars instead of voice actors to use star power for promotion. He saw the writing on the wall when Disney asked him to do this and laid a hard boundary. Thing is, Disney FULLY ignored it. They put his name ALL OVER promo, sold Genie toys aplenty, and the kicker is that Robin was right. The Genie is in fact the tipping point for animation using film stars and comedians instead of working voice actors in productions. After Aladdin the new it girl was Shrek, and the rest is history. Some film stars like Robin are immensely talented at voiceover! But it IS a different field and not all film actors are good at it, so the results have been.... eh. Looking at you Chris Pratt. Robin fought Disney HARD on them breaking their contract, and he refused to reprise in the sequels until they made things right. Anyway RIP Robin, you will forever be missed and appreciated for the effort.

Fun fact: The singing voice of princess Jasmine is Lea Salonga, one of the Philippines’ most beloved and cherished singers, and she’s also the singing voice of Mulan!! 🥰❤️

For a man who wasn't a trained singer, Robin Williams had pipes. I love the way he sang "Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali" as Genie.
RIP, Legend

And a lot of the genies lines were improvised, they often said to Robin to wing it, or him just doing it himself, hence also why this movie is so hilarious 😉😊
They had so many hours of unused footage of him just having fun 🤩
