i love that you clocked early how jenny's childhood trauma has impacted her in her adult life, but how she has a good heart, because a lot of reactors just call her "selfish" but she's so much more of a complex character than that

At the anti rally Forrest said in his speech  "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."

Jenny never tried to hurt Forrest... she kept leaving him because she was afraid OF hurting him. Her self-esteem was so low that in her mind, just being part of his life would be bad for him... so she was constantly running away from him. <br><br>I also think one important factor to this film is that it shows how important a supportive family can be to a child growing up. Forrest had his challenges, but he had a loving mother who did everything she could to give him a good life... and Forrest grew up pure of heart and succeeded at anything he tried. Jenny meanwhile, had all the potential in the world and none of the intellectual obstacles that Forrest did.... but she had a traumatic childhood - and that screwed her up for decades. It wasn't until she became a mother herself that she was able to sort her life out.

My mom used to say that the saddest part for her is when Forrest asks Jenny of their son is like him, because it was then she realized that Forest was aware of how different he was & didn’t want that life for his child 😢
