React to his song "Calypso" at some point. It's a tribute to a man and his boat that really promoted ocean ecology/awareness. I doubt you would know of him. The 70s was the beginning of the ecology movement. Jacques Cousteau was one of the great ones. His show "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" was in our living rooms every week and introduced the world to what was happening in the oceans. Wonderful song.

this song saved a young girls life one night. after john had passed his wife annie had begun to do social work in the aspen area. then she got a radio show, where she helped people with problems. she took live calls on the air. a young girl called and like many she wanted to talk about john. she said he saved her life. annie had gotten tired of the topic always being about john. after she and this girl talked they both ended up in tears. She told annie that she was terribly depressed, no hope in sight. she sat on the side of her bed about to take her life. then she noticed the radio playing softly, then she heard the lyrics to "poems, prayers & promises". it was so positive, someone loving life. she got help and is living well today.

John Denver was the best.  I still want to cry when I hear him and think of his early death.  He loved playing that 12 string guitar and he did it with such proficiency.  OK now I'm tearing up.  Thanks John for what you gave us!

I think you would enjoy This Old Guitar but find the video of him telling the story on his variety show from around 1974 or so. Beautiful.

I have seen John Denver at least 5 times in concert and have to say he sung even better in person. He is such a great story teller. He used to play the 12 string guitar which sounded amazing..Thanks for playing this song.

John Denver has always been a joy in my house growing up. There is a lovely video of the song "Fly Away" that he sang with Olivia Newton John.
