I was eleven years old during the Falklands War. It was a topic of conversation at school, but my memory of it is also tied to a specific incident.
It was May in Rome—my hometown—and my mother, who would strike up conversations with anyone, even on the street, spotted a young woman with red hair (like my sister’s) who looked sad. She invited her to lunch on our terrace, which at the time overlooked the British Embassy gardens.
She was a British tourist who told us her boyfriend was serving on the front lines in the Falklands; she was worried, yet at the same time very proud of her man. As a boy who already loved British war movies—starring Alec Guinness, Michael Caine, and others—I was deeply moved by her story. My admiration for the British people grew; I saw them as heroic, dignified, and proud, with strong women.
We stayed in touch with the young woman; fortunately, her boyfriend returned safely, and they lived happily ever after.

The speeches of the padre (6:01:05) and the archbishop (6:26:09) were touching, reflecting on life's priorities and the shared sorrow on both sides of the war.

3 days after the final surrender of Argentine forces on the Falklands (June 14, 1982), Argentine President (dictator) Galtieri was removed from power by the other members of the military junta. While he remained a recluse for most of the rest of his life, he faced criminal charges for his actions prior to taking power (the murder of activists, and other actions associated with the "Dirty War"). He spent a few years in prison, but was ultimately pardoned in 1989.

[Of note, Israel did in fact sell military hardware to Argentina during the conflict, but not - so far as any evidence has adduced - the Gabriel missile.]

There's been a joke for many years, from the journalists of that time, that much of the footage is still in transit back to the UK.
It was much easier, at that time, to control the news coming out of a war zone.
I wonder if all of the footage will ever be released ?

Interesting Thumbnail pic showing the use of the INIBA (Improved Northern Ireland Body Armour) worn outside the clothing.
