  When my husband  (soulmate) was killed at age 28 , then buried both parents, and buried 6 Brothers.  All before I was 45.  I would give anything to see them once again.   God Bless you for your losses!

  David Gates said per "The Guardian" this song was about the death of his father. “My father died in 1963 and I wanted to write a song in memory of him. He did live to see some of my early progress towards success, but not the major songs or stardom with Bread. As with all my songs, the music led and the words tried to keep up, but they came pretty quickly. I wrote the lyrics—‘I would give everything I own just to have you back again’—so that they could be interpreted as a love song, but when I played it for my wife, she knew right away that it was about my father. She cried.”

  Still can’t get through this song without crying.  Lost my parents in my mid 20’s, now in my mid 50’s…30 years and this song still hits…EVERYTIME!! ❤

  My mother told me that if she hadn't lost 2 babies before I was born, then I wouldn't be here.  I have two grown daughters and a beautiful grandbaby.  Through my own  losses in my 66 years, I've learned to trust that the good Lord knows best and to be thankful in all circumstances.  Not necessarily for all circumstances, but in them.

  My father died a few years ago and I miss him every day. He taught what it really means to be a man and not be afraid to love somebody completely. RIP dad.

  Discovered this song after having lost my father when I was 14.  Played the song at my wife's funeral.  Our son was 14.  Tearing up as I post this.  It will be 6 years in less than two weeks.
