Is This the Strangest Remake Ever?

You wanna know what really sucks about the small percentage of old games not officially available today? The fact most systems from 1999 and backwards could fit their entire libraries onto single discs or switch cartridges. If the licensing octopi were untangled, it would be really easy to keep these game available, but cest la vie...

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S90Vk6aMB1A&t=240">4:00</a> I remember being stuck on this for so long. I closed the DS and took a break, only to find it solved when I opened it. It was at that point that I realized the game's mechanics extended past the touchscreen. That was truly a great moment for me, I haven't experienced anything like it since then.

This is the inevitable double edged sword of unique consoles like the DS. It creates one-of-a-kind experiences that by their very nature can never be fully ported to more standard systems authentically. Thankfully the originals will always be there in some form or fashion, but man it sucks to know that for many people their first and likely only experience will be with good-yet-drastically-altered versions

I feel like this is why they subtitled it "recollection"<br>It isn't just a re-collection of the original games, but a recalled version of them, as if from a memory; not quite as it was in reality, but close enough that it fits well enough into the gap left by the absence of the originals. Not quite what happened, but a recollection of a memory....

Ashleys birthday is decided upon the birthdate you input on the ds system. When i played the game i was so shocked she had my birthday , little me had no idea about the truth but it was magic. Little did the developers know.

Y'know based on the number of high quality videos this guy is releasing I'm beginning to think he might not be a dot.

I’m scared for what will happen if they ever choose to remake Hotel Dusk. Hotel Dusk’s aesthetic is so iconic that remaking the visuals seems insane to me, but it’s also even more tied to its DS roots because you hold the console sideways like a book. The sequel wasn’t even ever released in North America, so a remake would be the only time they would ever re-release it

As a kid who didn't know anything, I always thought this was gonna be a horror game with the creepy setting and art. Even the premise, a lone girl finding her dad in an island with a mansion.<br>I was terrified but kept playing. I'm happy it even got a remake.

The Zero Escape fandom feels your pain on this one. Spoiling as little as possible, a massive part of the original game is both screens displaying text at all times: with the one screen the remake was built for, that’s not possible, so the story suffers and the massive script changes needed to accommodate it are divisive at best. ItsYourPalJacob has a great video on it if you’re looking for more on the topic of DS game preservation.

I'm gonna start by saying it's a great video, and a lot of work was obviously put into it. But I have a major issue with it.<br><br>I'm somewhat baffled at the depth that went into the reasearch for this video while barely talking of one of the main reason this remake is the way it is. It's not just the fact that the original is a DS game, it's the fact that it's part of a collection. The very existence of the remake is already somewhat of a miracle, so it was kinda obvious that, if we got a 2 in 1 deal like that, they would use the same design/gameplay in both remake, mainly to gain some time and ressources. So yeah, we lost some aspect of the DS game (mainly the puzzles), and the story was somewhat changed because the story has a direct sequel already here, which was not the case when it released.<br><br>I know the whole talk about the DS remake was a setup for the discussion about game preservation, and it's an interesting topic, but barely aknowledging half of the collection to talk about it feels wrong, especially since it might be one of the main reason the game isn't more accurate to the original.
