I beat OoT for the first time when I was 5 years old thanks to my mother not only reading through the guide book to help me on parts where I got stuck but also sitting down and playing the game with me. 28 years later, I am going to get to experience it all over again. Not only because of the remake but I get to witness it through daughters play through of this masterpiece for the first time. I wish my mother was still here to witness it as well, but that is just how life be sometimes.

When Saria was talking about Link leaving the forest in the trailer, I finally couldnt hold it in. My childhood is gone and Ive left the forest too.
My sister is also not here anymore and what I wouldnt give for her to accidently delete my save for the 4th time. This game helped bring so many precious moments, memories, and bonds to my life. I hope Ill be here for 50th anniversary too and cant wait for my neice to be able to make her own memories with this game

There was something magical about coming home from school thinking about that dungeon you couldn’t beat last night, and booting up Zelda 64 to replay the dungeon. Good times.

Being triplets, my siblings and I were 5 when the original OoT came out. We each picked a piece of the triforce.
23 years later, I got the triforce tattooed over my heart with each of my siblings’ initials in their selected triforce spaces.
We are thrilled to see this game come to life all over again

I know nobody asked but I'd like to share my story, specifically about Oot. Im young compared to most people who love Oot but I think it means just as much to me. When i was very young, my mom busted out her N64 and i watched her play Oot all the time. I was enamored by the game when i was probably like 5. I started playing it myself and immediately loved it. When i was a bit older she got me the reamake for the 3ds and i fell in love all over again. This was before the Botw era of zelda when it became more mainstream so i had nobody in school who knew anything aboht Zelda. I was also bullied quite a bit in elementary and middle school. I would go home and bust out my 3ds and just get lost in the world. It was my escape. It made me so happy. Just seeing the trailer for the remake has already got me feeling some of those memories again. This game is more than a game to me. This game was like a childhood friend who was always there for me. Thats why it means so much to me.

You hit the nail on the head. Experiencing great games like this is like a time machine. I can think back to any game and then just look at the year it released, and I'll remember all the other things I was doing during that year when I wasn't playing the game.

I got emotional watching the Direct. To see the franchise grow to what it is… is truly heartwarming. Link is perfectly named.

My very first Zelda game was the original on NES in the late 80s, and I agree with you about the adventure and wondering what's next being a major part of why I love the series so much. I remember getting to the edge of that rectangular map of Hyrule and wondering, 'What's on the other side of the mountains? What's across the sea? What's beyond the edge of the map?" Even in OOT, I wanted to know what was behind and beyond the Forest Temple. I've been chasing that feeling for almost 40 years.

The Zelda Direct moved me in a way I was not anticipating. It's been almost two decades since I played any Zelda game (life, parenting, etc, etc), but my love for the series has not waned. The first time I watched The Fellowship of the Ring in theaters after having read The Hobbit and LOTR a million times was damn near a religious experience; to see the world I had loved and imagined fully realized was almost incomprehensible. I had a similar feeling the first time I played OOT, and I felt it again watching the Direct.

And it's not just nostalgia or because the graphics look amazing; it's the feeling of being seen and heard and cared for as a fan and a community; so much love went into this remake for us, and that's a truly remarkable thing. People cry "fan service, ew!" when creators give fans what they want, but I don't think fan service in and of itself is the issue. When a creator compromises their vision for a quick cash grab, absolutely, that's gross, and it's so incredibly apparent when that's the case. Does Nintendo stand to make ungodly amounts of money from this? Obviously, but they would have made a buttload with even half the effort and fanfare. They didn't need to pull out all the stops. The fact that they added a dash feature because they had seen how fans were rolling across Hyrule field to get places faster? The fact that they made a quiet point in the trailer to show that you can change boots in the Water Temple without going into the menu? The fact that they intentionally added unnecessary loading screens between areas for the vibes? All of that was in service to fans (including themselves, because it's so apparent that the brains behind this remake are Hyrule devotees as well), and that's such a rare and beautiful thing anymore.

I played Ocarina of Time at 4 years old, and I had a rough childhood, this game IS the best part of my childhood and playing this game is like literally returning back in time to those good memories. Ironically symbolic to the time travel of the games story.
