It’s not the best to review equipment using badly designed speakers with significant dips and bumps… seems you have been doing this for quite some time as you admit.

To summarize badly designed speakers with significant dip and significant bump… these issues overwhelm any amp, yes you need amp that does calm down high tones to try to mitigate its issues… you buy very expensive speakers that require immediate assistance of eq and room correction. Isn’t it better to get neutral flat speakers that can be then slightly adjusted to your liking by eq if you really need to, instead of having badly designed speaker and try to justify it by its „specific sound”…

I have 703 S3s connected to my Advance Paris A12. It sounds great on everything. The amp is good for 190W in 8 Ohms and 280 into 4 Ohms. You can't really have too much power. I have a SVS 3000 Micro sub set to 45 Hz, and I haven't decided whether the B&Ws really need it. On some pop music like Billy Eilish's Oxytocin the sub really helps. OTOH, when watching TV with them I frequently have to turn down the volume because the bass gets excessively loud with the sub on. I have a pair of Quad ESL-63s that I'm rebuilding. Once that project is finished I may save to sub for them and leave it off for the 703s.

I own a pair of these in black. I use an amp that has 250 watts per channel. They sound great and do not need a subwoofer when listening to music.

Hi , been looking at these speakers, do you think a Quad Artera Solus & Quad Artera Power Amp will be powerful enough to drive them? Thanks for the review.

I ended up with an older pair of this brand speakers while remodeling a basement. I kind of thought they might be high end, but they ended up in the back of my 73 Volkswagen beetle. they sound great but I fear the speakers are worth more than the car

Darko,
Nice reviews
Though i believe you are under driving the B&W speakers your reviewing.
Power those 703 S3 on a average reciever. You like Marantz.
power those with a SR8015. Then power those with a 200X2 amp and then power them with a 300X2 amp.
Then hear the difference and then review those speakers.
I'd like to hear the updated review.
Honestly I don't like Marantz.
Marantz is a bad choice for B&W speakers.
A better Amp and it's alot cleaner amp is the Musical Fidelity 230X2 amp and it's a few hundred dollars more.
Then do a updated review.

New to the audiophile game. Want a system that can handle Movies, sports and streaming music. Originally planned for a soundbar system to throw on my planned Sony A95L purchase. But I was dragged down the rabbit hole and now have abandoned the soundbar idea. My question is this. I just listened to the 703 S3 'open box' speakers driven by a Marantz Cinema 60 and was wowed. Should I trust 'Open Box' speakers with a big discount to be reliable long term? As a Noob I just don't have any real experience or understanding and want to make sure I am on solid footing. If the recommendation is to avoid the open box sale, I wouldn't be able to afford these speakers new, and would have to look downwards if that makes sense.
