  It saddens me that we have to say things like, "What if the roles were reversed?" and "Imagine if this happened to your mother or sister!" in order to garner what should just be basic human empathy. It speaks volumes to just how objectified women are under patriarchy that we aren't seen as deserving of equal treatment.

  There is a trick that artists using a digital canvas will often do, where about halfway through they flip the canvas just to look for any strange shapes or proportions. Suddenly the smallest asymmetry becomes clear.<br><br>This video is exactly like that. Just flipping the canvas and suddenly the patterns I’m used to are exposed.

  I’m a woman and what’s insane about this to me is how I can like feel how intoxicating it is to be on the other side of this equation. Like no wonder men never questioned this growing up. I grew up in a pretty egalitarian household but even seeing this with the genders entirely swapped is shifting my brain a little bc man… I’ve always known that having basically only male historical figures impacted how I view myself but having it laid out in a story like this really drove the point home in a way I’ve never thought about before.

  As a Mormon man myself, watching the roles reversed makes the imbalance impossible to ignore. When the familiar power structure is flipped, you instantly feel the discomfort that many women in the church are expected to swallow and spiritualize. It becomes clear that what gets taught as divine order often functions more like a cultural system that benefits one group and asks the other to call it sacred.<br><br>What stood out to me is how different these teachings feel once you imagine being the one who is expected to defer, obey, or stay small. The things that seem gentle or protective from the top feel restrictive and dismissive from the bottom. That shift alone says more than any debate ever could.<br><br>To me, this kind of video is not an attack on belief. It is a reminder that if a doctrine only feels holy when you are the one holding authority, then maybe the holiness is coming from privilege, not revelation. If a system collapses the moment you treat people equally, that tells you something about the system.<br><br>That is why this video hits so hard. It replaces abstract arguments with lived reality and makes it harder to pretend that hierarchy is harmless. It asks a simple question. If equality feels threatening to a faith tradition, what does that say about the tradition.

  I didn&apos;t grow up in a patriarchal religion and my parents were very egalitarian and insisted I could do anything a boy could do. But still, that scene with all the presidents and scientists with genders reversed hit me and it caught me off guard. Despite upbringing, I still exist in a patriarchy.

  One thing I find so interesting is the peace and gentleness this invoked, imagining all the women being in leadership. What it doesn&apos;t convey is the stepping on eggshells, holding your breath, fear of violence or lewdness, unwanted touches, etc that are experienced when the script is flipped back to the original way it was. For Mormon men to watch this and think &quot;this is so weird and uncomfortable&quot;, they aren&apos;t even getting the sense of discomfort and constant underlying fear for safety woman and girls are feeling in the current reality.

  My Roman Catholic husband and I watched this together, and he was really moved. He said all religious men should watch. It really moved him and helped him further reflect on the inequity in not only the church, but every facet of life. Thank you for creating such an accessible piece.

  I’m a former Mormon former man, and… I really wish I’d found this video when I was sixteen or younger. I don’t know if I would have listened, but there’s a small chance it would have saved me a whole lot of pain. Thanks for doing what you do.

  Many years ago I had an exmo girlfriend. One of the (many) things that angered her about the church was the way teenage boys had more authority in the church than their mothers.
