  The Scottish impact on Jamaica has been huge. Between Scots indentured servants, soldiers, book keepers, overseers, foremen, and settlers, not to mention the many doctors, lawyers, accountants, Colonial civil administrators, engineers, and supervisors who came after Emancipation you can see why most surnames in Jamaica are of Scots origin. Many Scots left Jamaica over the past 200 years going to America and especially to Canada to join relatives there, which is one reason why Jamaica and Canada have strong links. Some Scottish traits are evidenced with Jamaicans, where &nbsp;burning ambition to get ahead and the very serious concern for money are involved. My own Scottish ancestry involves the Blairs from northern Clarendon.

  My Surname is Murchison and I still don&apos;t know how the name got to Jamaica, but I went to Scotland 2023 and discovered that the name is originally from Scotland midlands, some people who were mostly farmers
