  I am 59 and live in the U.S. state of Minnesota. I was always told by my fathers parents were Swedes that came from Finland. I did a DNA test for fun.. Results... I am half Finnish lol. Turns out my grandparents were Swede-Fins from Kronoby Ostrebothnia Finland. Would love to visit one day. You never know !!

  I was born in Finland and lived my first decade there. And I'm a Finn with a Finnish name. Ja minä ymmärrän ja puhun Suomea. Now there's a reason to be happy to be Finnish.

  As a Finnish archeologist who has studied the earliest post-glacial settlement of Finland, I must be allowed to comment. While extremely interesting, these genetic studies suffer from a thin chronological span. I&apos;m aware that this is due to a lack of skeletal material, but at the same time I feel it ought to be mentioned that Finland was settled several millennia before the Bronze Age Siberian influx and these earlier settlers must necessarily have had a part in the general make-up of the genes Finns carry. You cannot just ignore this, even if you have no actual genetic data about it. We know from the archaeology that there was a much earlier influx from Siberia; in fact the very earliest settlers had strong links to the east and probably originally migrated from there. We can recognize this through a specific lithic technology that spread from the Lake Baikal region both westward and eastward during the millennia before 10000 BC. It was common in northwestern Russia in the very Earliest Mesolithic and even some centuries before and it was from among the carriers of this technology that the earliest settlers of Finland came. We know it came from Siberia with people, not just as a learned cultural trait, because it is complicated and takes a years long apprenticeship to master. You cannot replicate it by looking at the finished product.<br><br>This technology reached even northernmost Finnish Lapland and the Varangerfiord region on the Norwegian Barents Sea coast and spread from there south along the Norwegian coast all the way to southern Norway and Sweden and has been recognized in aDNA studies. An eastern influx has been recognized at the same time in the technology of making bone implements on the west coast of Norway, so it was a whole cultural package carried by a specific group of people, who left recognizable genetic marks.<br><br>Unless you envision a total extinction of this earliest population, you cannot ignore &nbsp;it, and vestiges of it ought to be found also in modern Norway and Sweden.<br><br>I would also be interested to know why no aDNA from the Mesolithic cemetery at Olenyi Ostrov in Lake Onega was included in these studies. That should hive a better picture of the earliest stages of settlement, which are ignored here.

  Congratulation, Dust &amp; Data! This is the first video about Finnish DNA that I see which does not repeat the unscientific claim that genetics could tell the original homeland of language.

  There is not one single Finnish genetic group. Finns are roughly divided into 2 major groups between the southern and western Finns and the northern and eastern Finns, a divide which roughly corresponds to the borders of the Treaty of Nöteborg in 1323.

  I like being finnish. Wouldn&apos;t change it for anything. My grandmother was german tho, but other than that I&apos;m fine.

  Of course we are not &quot;Scandinavians&quot; because we are Finnish. Except some of us are Swedish by origin, at least the Danes don&apos;t realize that.

  I was born in south-west Finland. My dna is 59 % fiinnish, rest mostly scandinavian and baltic. Finland was long time part of Sweden, so I &nbsp;think people in west side of country have quite mixed dna.

  I was born in Australia to finnish parents, i did my dna and it says that i was 100% Finnish (central finland) . My father was born in Lohtaja and my mothers family were near Vali Viirre or so. I have been back 12 times and did do my national service in the 80&apos;s. Best time of my life. I also need to mention on this topic that my father had open heart surgery as did my older brother and myself 2 years ago, probly has some back ground to these discussions.
