  The Thunder Warrior history is a bit simpler than most realise, like replicants in Bladerunner the Emperor didnt know how to make them functionally immortal like the Space Marines and chose to eliminate them than leave them to rot. One (possibly more) survived and lived inside the slums of Terra, using his own knowledge of biology to keep himself alive, playing a part in the Horus Heresy many centuries later
