  In Tasmania 1967 i watched as a child my state literally explode in fire with winds so fast no one had a chance to outrun. I watched this and all those memories came back. When I hear that firefighters felt ineffective just remember people like me a now retired firefighter have been calling out for changes for a long time. Hindsight being the wonderful beast it is, rarely is followed unless all are affected. We can adapt but responsibility and response is problematic if funding isn't provided where it is effective not political ! Policies and regulation got us here.   We had just moved into our house on Shiloh ridge road (Shiloh oaks) and we left thinking it would never down our way. &nbsp;Sure enough it did. &nbsp;Burned our entire property, lost a shed but the brave woman of many fire departments saved our house. &nbsp;When we showed up we couldn’t believe how ravaged it was. &nbsp;One firefighter from HMB putting out hot spots saw the boxes through the window and said, boy you are lucky to have sold this place…I responded, nope, we are the idiots that just bought it. &nbsp; Wouldn’t change it for the world. &nbsp;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/sonomastrong">#sonomastrong</a>.

  One of the most eerie things about growing up in Las Vegas is waking up in the morning and the smoke has blown from these huge California wildfires into the Vegas valley. It’s this acknowledgment that we all slept hundreds of miles away, the wind that makes these so bad has carried the news of its devastation with it.

  Coming to work at capital lumber after the evacuation order was lifted and seeing the fire line touching then retardant line on the hill will forever be etched into memory.

  I was a volunteer in Cazadero and assigned to the strike team that ultimately held the fire at Foothill Park. Twenty years prior I was a professional firefighter in CDF. The Kincade, without equivocation, was the gnarliest fire fight of my life. Period. One of the proudest moments of my adult life was abandoning a fire hose-lay, and switching to a hand line attack with back firing at Arata Lane in Windsor. We were a strike team of volunteers, but I started fighting wildfires on a handcrew and was comfortable using fire to fight fire. There was a creekbed in Arata that was PERFECT for lighting fire to and holding. My peers were trying to make a direct attack with hoses, but I felt it was going to overrun the hoseline. I took burning grass into my McCloud tool and dragged fire down to the creek bed and across it. I ran that fire along the creek bed and now had my peers stopping it from crossing the creek as the backfire raced to the head of the advancing fire. It worked. There were engines visible ligning the 101, but it was clear to all of us that this was going to rip all the way to Austin creek in Cazadero. I most certainly can&apos;t take ANY credit for stopping that fire, but I can say, definitively, that my experience made a huge difference that day. Again, one of the proudest moments of my life.

  I moved away 2 years before thr 2017 fire. Thank goodness. I miss living there, but not that much.

  I was living off Pine Flat Rd at the time and we lost our home and everything changed in my life after that fire. At the time it felt like the worst thing that had ever happened to me. &nbsp;As I watched it now, all the symptoms I felt came back, tightness in my chest, can&apos;t breathe... But now, because of this experience, I am a EFT/Tapping practitioner, and I was able to go into all these sensations and emotions and memories of that week, and I was able to tend to what is still inside of me. &nbsp;For a couple years I was so tender and yes traumatized. But I realized that it didn&apos;t start the night of the Kincade fire. &nbsp;It started after Paradise and every time I woke up to the wind howling or smoke in the air. Thank you for making this. I feel really at peace with what I was able to uncover in myself through watching this and Tapping on what was coming up.🙏🏼

  We lost our ranch to the Tubbs Fire. I happened to be up there when it came through (normally we live in SoCal but I was up there to do some work on the house). Me and the caretaker both took one look at the wind direction and the smoke and said &quot;time to go.&quot; When we came back, there was nothing left &nbsp;of the house except some smoldering remains and the foundation. Thankfully we didn&apos;t keep anything of value up there since it wasn&apos;t our primary residence, but still. It&apos;s amazing how fast these fires can move, one minute its totally fine, the next your house is gone.

  second time I watched your video. Extremely well done. I personally know a couple of the Fire Officials in the video. We need to stay alert to the dangers around us this time of year and stay ready.

  These first responders did absolutely amazing. No loss of life in this fire? Incredible. Really should be the model for how the everyone in the western united states responds.
