I don’t really understand if the throughput of energy is more important than the building of the muscle, then what difference does it really make? Everyone I know who wants to build muscle intends to keep exercising to build more and maintain it.

It feels like a distinction without a difference, maybe there are groups out here maintaining lots of fat and lots of muscle and not regularly exercising and somehow deluding themselves into thinking they are healthy based on Dr. Lyons statements but that just feels like a stretch. It seems building muscle just goes along with regular exercise and cutting body fat over time.

I'm interested in the discussion about the "types" of fat. di vs triglycerides. Does the fact that trigs are the "neatly closed box" reduce the importance of trig numbers in your blood work report?

Does the 12% figure apply to women. Seems too low or do we need to add 10%? Mentor heselman has a podcast referring to studies showing no p ratio different despite body fat which suggests for most lack of energy is inconsequential thanks for this ❤

Given that your argument hinges on the number and location of doors in myocytes... it would be helpful if you can provide more data on doors vs muscle volume and mass beyond 10% are not hung in the wall at rest. Are you referring to GULT4? What about GLUT1? How much variability between individuals in GLUT1 transport capacity? Does GLUT1 scale linearly with increased muscle volume or mass? As a muscle belly hypertophys, does the surface area to volume ratio change in a way that ultimately favors more glucose transport both at rest and with activity? Convince us that your doors "at rest" argument holds up.

So, muscle quality is what matters, as well as how well you oxidize fat, both of which are directly improved by training, which, despite her reductionism, is something that Dr. Lyon wholeheartedly endorses. So why spend so much time on this topic? It just confuses the point that people need to train consistently. Yeah, she has the details wrong and maybe the fundamental claim is misleading, but the main message is “you need to lift weights”, so why spend so much time muddying the waters?

Dude, are we talking about doors, or physiology? The analogy was cute for a YouTube short, but it's just muddying the waters here for me. Great information though! 👍

Being fat is not a disease. It's what happens when you ignore CICO. I agree that you have to be lean before you start running a bulk, and that if you're not lean, you can still gain muscles. That's why people on GLP1s can still gain muscles (as I did) because most people on GLP1s are not bodybuilder lean (below 10% body fat). How about changing sarcopenia into myopenia?
