I Finally Understand Control. Apparently, I still do not understand basic shapes. Minor spoilers in the video btw…

This game is god tier in story telling. A game where I actually want to read every document is so rare. I wish that this game had a new game + though. It desperately needs it.

Control has one of my favorite “show don’t tell” examples. Around the time you get the launch ability (I think shortly after) you can stumble across a film reel of Dr Darling explaining the object of power and the ability it grants. Pretty standard practice for this game. But Darling notes that they’ve managed to use this ability to throw pencils the length of a table and mentions moving a coffee mug as if it is a major achievement. (HUGE shout-out to Matthew Porretta’s acting for this. He really sells it.) Meanwhile, you’ve seen Jesse throwing around chairs, desks, and chunks of concrete she ripped from the walls at enough speed to take out enemies from a distance. It really puts into perspective how talented of a parautilitarian Jesse is as compared to the standard FBC agent.

As someone who fell in love with the game from the very first teaser trailer, I never understood why more people didn't get into it. I've always liked weird and mind-bending things, so it never crossed my mind that people were going into a game, a game whose very first lines are "Fair warning, this is going to be weirder than usual", expecting the game to have a normal narrative/design/character/etc. But I get it now. I loved Alan Wake 2, and watching Saga step into a world she did not realize she was already a part of.

I have always felt that Jesse's narrative reflected what its like after you finish your education and enter the workforce or even just adulthood. You suddenly have all this power and responsibility you never had before, a bunch of people you don't know expecting you to just do what you're supposed to do and get things done. Its an intimidating expectation, but you power through, and you find you can navigate the world just fine, and even succeed in ways that seemed unthinkable. You also see what the previous generation left behind. Their mistakes, their failing systems that prevent you from moving forward, and you are suddenly expected to overcome them. Their actions are not your fault, but they're not going to clean up their mess, they either can't or wont, so you have to do it, all the while trying not to repeat their mistakes in the process, and sometimes being forced into situations where there is no good solution. In the end its about accepting your control over your own life, and doing the best you can with it.

Also, not to nitpick, but the Board is/is broadcasting from a pyramid, not a cube. It's one of the few things the game is quite explicit about.

There is truly no more satisfying power fantasy than picking up a forklift and throwing it at breakneci speed at your enemies. With your mind.

I adore brutalist architecture and surrealism, so it’s a perfect fit for me. I enjoyed this game immensely.

Speaking of Langston, if you stay around in his office in the Panopticon, his guards will have some funny dialogs with him, like talking about their pets and pretending to be robots

Jesse doesn't care about the FBC , she only cares about her brother Dylan.

This is really one of my favourite games and I am incredibly hyped/invested in Resonant. However, I think there was missed opportunity here: There are multiple posters warning that House shifts do not count towards overtime, suggesting it happens rather frequently, yet, we never get to experience on for ourselves. We only see the house shift back whenever we cleanse a control point. I would have been amazing to experience these shifts for ourselves

This game wears its inspirations so proudly on its sleeves

Warehouse 13, The Room, The Librarian & of COURSE, SCP. It really is such a great time and the fact your service weapon is your SECONDARY weapon compared to things like Launch & Shield really sells how strong the paranatural side of things are

In my playthrough I thought Dylan wasn't real, I thought Dylan was Altered Item manifestion created by the entity that Jesse interacted when she activated the projector as a kid
