Dutch style requires you to be strong, aggressive and able to take a shot. It requires a mindset during training and doing training this way for years and years. Same goes for Japanese style.
In Holland you spend most of your time in class doing hard combo's on each other and lots of sparring and also body sparring to build toughness and the right reactions. You need to do the Dutch drills hard and high paced. Not half ass it. In Holland we almost never do pads, you just practice your techniques hard on each other. It's hard to aquire this style if you're the only one in your gym who wants to fight like this because the style is built by the training culture in that gym.

People need to realize not everyone is built to fight and train the same way.

Those dutch/german kickboxing gyms force everyone to be a pressure fighter. Some people are just more suited to outboxing people from range than to constantly walking their opponent down with a high guard.

Someone like Lerdsilla or Adesanya would've never made it at one of those gyms. And yet their approach to the sport clearly works.

I used to train that dutch k1 style. If you have a kyphosis (rounded back), that helps a lot and your head AND body are protected. Best style for office workers! 😆

The style's roots are in Kyokushin, which is all about fundamental techniques and toughness by standing in the pocket trading blows.

One nice detail my coach gave me is curling your wrists on the high guard, helps to make punches slide off your guard

Very interesting culture, the Dutch. In the 80s I played youth soccer in the US and we had Dutch coaches...all we did was train passing drills and then 4 v 4s. The passing drills were so precise and the coaches were sticklers for speed and technique. The 4 v 4s were intense and very physical...if certain players were consistently on the losing teams they didn't get to play in the actual games on the weekend. The message was clear...if you don't train well you don't play.

It was very grueling, and often boring training, but with a clear method. The passing drills translated to actual patterns of play in the game, and the 4 v 4s conditioned us, got us lots of ball repetitions and made us fight to compete. We ended up being one of the best teams in the area.

Years later when I learned that the Dutch were also good at kickboxing, I knew which style I had to try!

This is such incredible and eerie timing.
We literally just went through this Dutch style training for 4 weeks at our dojo.
The great majority of us found it so awkward.
The rounded posture, the non flashy kick and that steady back to back striking like you just stated.

It was just tiring and awkward 😄
Completely opposite of the whole traditional Muay Thai stance n strikes.

But it's good to see another well seasoned coach talk about it in a different form.
Highly appreciate this video!
You're the best Gabriel!
