“Maximum efficiency, maximum damage” summarises Dutch culture in general very well

I'm not sure if it's mentioned in the video, but Dutch kickboxers of the heavyweight athletes especially have very good strength and explosiveness programs that is tailored almost perfectly for combat sports in the 3-5 round format

Funny enough, i think even Yuki Yoza said the Dutch sparred too much and hard and you know Takeru and him beat the lumps outta each other. The gym he went also didnt do any padwork which he dislikes since hes always famously calf kicking the shit outta of his padman lol

Many of the founders of the style had loads of experience on the streets, being doormen or through more shady stuff like debt collection or soccer hooliganism. Dutch organized crime is often quite present on their kickboxing gala nights. Many of them came from quite rough neighbourhoods.

Following Dutch kick boxing for YEARS now and man I can not tell you enough how under appreciated this scene is in the world. It’s time the world recognizes the kickboxing talent and skills this country has brought into the world!

Dutch kickboxing does have head movement for defense, it is just incorporated into their kicks. They step off angle when throwing kicks, hence avoiding return fire from their opponents.

We don't always spar hard, nor do we go for hard head shots. The body is pretty much fair game, but we still don't try to KO our sparring partner. Sometimes I've had people go a bit harder than I was expecting, but a "go a bit lighter" generally fixes that. That tends to be the case if the weight difference is noticeable, as in 15-20-30 kg difference, where their shots feel heavier by default. The emphasis is generally on speed, technique, combo and execution. To be honest, if kickboxing would include elbows as well as Thai clinching, it would be by far the most complete striking art in the world. Head movement is only partially used, mostly because the speed at which strikes come makes it almost impossible not to weave or slip into a kick or a knee, so the risk outweighs the reward by too much. What you say in the video near the end is definitely true. It's an attrition battle, with the more conditioned fighter generally being highly favored in a long fight. Because it's so high speed, high power oriented, people tend to gas out a lot. Even professionals sometimes fail to manage their gas tank and by the 5th round they become sloppier. I thought I was used to HIIT cardio and had good endurance before starting kickboxing. Then I realized the cardio needed is on another level altogether in kickboxing.
