My father used to work in a photographic shop in London in the early 50's. German cameras, Leica and Rollei, were popular and in restricted supply. High prices for German cameras would be paid by London studios and well off amateur photographers. As a young man my father would often get the boat train to Paris, buy a camera to order and bring it back for the customer. There used to be a doccument that had to be signed by a phographic dealer to certify the camera was british owned and being taken overseas, not an import. Of course the shop would fill out these forms for my father to take for return to show at customs. My father also had to put a roll of film though the camera so it was a "used camera", the packaging would also be disposed of. Back then he "owned" a truly amazing camera collection.

Thank you for a fascinating insight into a bygone age. My late father talked about the micro cord and the Reid stating they were both great cameras.

Wonderful video of a forgotten era. I have a Perma from the 1930s, which makes the 1950s version look like a Leica by comparison, and an Ensign Selfix from the same era. All British cameras are rare in the US, but I have been looking for a functional Reid for nearly 20 years. This was a true gem. Cheers! Andy

I had the Agiflex 3 with several lenses and a set of extension tubes. It was quite a good camera.

I think the most collectible British camera of those showed and mentioned, will be the Kennedy Instruments Monobar model type U Camera.

Thank you for this enjoyable video. My Chemistry teacher owned and used a Wrayflex in the mid -1970's. I myself had a Microcord and still have both of the Brownies featured here. The MPP Micro Technical 5 x 4 cameras, not featured, were still made and widely used professionally into the 1980's (I have a MkVII) and the Kershaw company made several folding roll film cameras (Penguin, Curlew, etc.). My Curlew III (6 x 9cm) is in perfect order and makes excellent negatives at 73 years old.
