2 landmarks which I have found really helpful and a way to remember them are: The middle line of the treble staff is B (D for bisect - the middle line bisects the staff), and the middle line of the bass staff is D (D for divide - the middle line divides the staff in 2). I remember which is B and which is D by thinking "D for deep" for the staff with the deep notes, and the "bi" in bisect rhymes with "high", for the higher notes.

Thank you for this lesson Marnia! I've always been limited to the treble cleft by the choices of the instruments chosen either by me or an external factor. Each day of watching is opening more the scope of the piano and increasing my confidence in where I am now and where I can go in taking on the task of learning the piano.<br>Your methods of teaching are great! Thank You!

I knew about the landmark notes. But the concept of "borrowing" the lines was new to me. Thanks a lot 🙂 As you mentioned reading music with ledger lines takes time to get used to. But the effort is well worth it.
