At 83, I decided to continue the piano lessons I gave up at about 12. I knew just enough to play songs that didn't go above the two Cs above and below middle C.

I've spent the last three months, and a ton of money, trying out the various online piano courses and not understanding all the things you just explained in one video.

Thank you so much for making a complex topic easy to understand. I've been creating chords, inversions, and possible progressions all morning and loving the process.
You are an outstanding teacher who is teaching this old dog new tricks.

When I first discovered the circle of fifths I stopped the video, got a piece of sketch paper, sat at my keyboard and made my own chart going through the chords. It's so much more rewarding when you prove to yourself that you understand and find your work consistent with the examples being shown everywhere you look.

I accidentally stumbled upon your video while looking for ways to add chords to a music sheet, and I just kept watching one video after another. I must say, you have a talent for teaching! You make everything so simple and easy to understand, all while incorporating great humor. Thank you!

I've never come across piano lessons that are so straightforward. I was hesitant to learn the piano because it often feels like reading “grape vines,” with one note stacked on top of three others. I played the violin when I was younger, and the notes were rarely stacked like that, which made learning the piano quite intimidating for me. I’m so grateful to have discovered your videos. They have inspired me to learn the instrument I truly love without delving too deeply into music theory. I’ve tried playing the piano by ear and had somehow learned to position my fingers on chords without realizing I was actually playing a chord. It just sounded good… haha! Now, with your simplified lessons, I finally understand why I play a certain chord with my left hand on a specific note with my right hand.

I will continue to watch all your videos. You are a fantastic teacher! Thank you so much!

I think this is one of the best videos about chords! Chord charts and books never worked for me. It’s so rare to find piano teachers who explain things in simple, down-to-earth language. This video isn’t just about piano — it’s also about what goes on in your head while you’re learning. Marina does an amazing job pointing out the challenges we all face and explaining why her method for learning chords makes so much sense. I made a little learning chart right after watching, and honestly, chords finally clicked for me!

I was taught by a classical teacher. After years of practising sight reading, I can read at a fast level, anything intermediate is within my grasp online, or sheet. But like you said my chord knowledge is not good, I need to focus on this more.
