I’m still unable to comprehend the depth of confusion and pain they went through when the earthquake then flood happened, devastating! TY🌿

Humanities losses over centuries is such a heavy toll just to learn how to build stronger buildings. So tragic, so frightening and so very sad.

There was a weird eerie feeling in Messina, something that was present, even before the tour guide said the city was built over the dead! When you go down the coastline, you can see the towns are all rebuilt in the same time frame, in the same style! 😢

Excellent. The visuals are to the point. Your Animations of what no doubt survivors had described experiencing during and after the event have emotional power. The visual "explosive" exclamation points timing helps the narrative. I believe I still have Stereoscope photo cards that match your before and after views of the waterfront. I went ashore at that waterfront from the USS Storms in early 1967. I was aware of the earth quake but not its connection the inviting airiness of Messina's streets after the claustrophobic streets of Naples. A lone pizza store was open. My three fellow sailors were so confused by the apple and peach pizzas on display. Getting them to understand that "pizza" in Italy described "pie" in America took some effort, ending with she and I trading grins as the, so demoralized, trio left us to the sharing of stories by two strangers in what was definitely a strange land. Thank you for reviving one of my USN pleasant memories

They had no chance against the extremely dodgy buildings, the tsunami , the cold, the absolute darkness of night.
